You do not need to be an athlete to learn kitesurfing — the harness takes the pull, not your arms. But a bit of preparation makes the first sessions easier, reduces soreness and helps you enjoy every hour on the water.

What Kitesurfing Actually Uses

  • Core — holds your body in position against the kite’s pull.
  • Legs — edge the board and absorb chop.
  • Grip and forearms — lighter than you think, if you let the harness work.
  • Swimming confidence — you will spend time in the water, especially in the first lessons.

Warm-Up on the Beach

  • Arm circles and shoulder rolls
  • Hip circles and leg swings
  • A few squats and lunges
  • Wrist and neck mobility
Expert Tip

Most first-day soreness comes from gripping the bar too hard. Hold it with relaxed fingers and let the harness carry the load.

On Koh Samui

Heat is the biggest factor: drink plenty, protect yourself from the sun and rest between sessions. Two-hour private lessons with breaks work well for most people. On calm days SUP is great cross-training for balance and core. See our kitesurfing courses.
