What is
E-Foiling?
An eFoil board uses a battery-powered electric motor and propeller mounted on a hydrofoil beneath the board. As you accelerate, the foil lifts the board and you completely above the water's surface. You fly silently above the sea at 20–30 km/h.
You control speed with a small wireless hand remote. No paddle, no wind, no waves needed. Just you, the board, and the sensation of gliding above the water. The motor runs for approximately 90 minutes on a full charge.
E-Foiling is the most accessible foil sport available. Anyone can try it regardless of athletic background or prior water sports experience. If you can stand on a board, you can e-foil.

E-Foil Koh Samui: The Ultimate Guide to Flying on Water
There is a moment on Koh Samui when the line between science fiction and reality blurs. It happens silently, a foot above the sea, as a rider glides effortlessly over turquoise water. This is e-foiling — a revolutionary water sport that feels less like riding and more like flying. It redefines what's possible on the water: a perfect blend of pure thrill and serene relaxation.
What to Expect from Your First E-Foil Session
The thrill of e-foiling is not the aggressive, heart-pounding rush of other sports. It's a smooth, blissful ascent. A first session typically begins on the beach with simple practical wisdom: "This is the go button, this is how you lean, always wear your helmet." The goal is to get into the water quickly.
Key stages of the first flight: realising the board is more stable than it looks, getting the feel for the throttle (super sensitive and smooth), the first wobbly attempt to stand, and then — that heart-stopping moment when the foil engages and the board lifts. Everything goes quiet. You just glide.
Why Koh Samui is the Perfect E-Foil Classroom
E-foil does not need wind, so it is the perfect activity for calm days on Koh Samui. Early mornings are often the calmest — a beginner's best friend, with little chop to fight. The crystal-clear water lets you see the hydrofoil working beneath the board, which somehow enhances balance and control.
This Isn't Traditional Surfing
You don't wait for the perfect set to roll in. Here, the rider creates their own ride. No waiting, no paddling out — just pure, uninterrupted riding. E-foiling is also quieter than traditional motorised watercraft, making it a more peaceful experience for both rider and bystanders.
Finding the Right E-Foil Setup
A good rental provides a board and foil matched to your weight, a fully charged battery, all safety equipment, and a quick refresher on use. While e-foiling is a year-round activity, the ideal time is during calmer seasons — making it a great alternative when there's no wind for kitesurfing or wing foiling.
E-Foil Safety
The electric motor is controlled via a handheld wireless remote with a dead-man safety cutoff — if you fall and release the remote, the motor stops immediately. Riders always wear impact vests and helmets. Sessions are conducted in designated calm water areas away from other water users. First sessions are closely supervised with the instructor in the water alongside you.
Frequently Asked
Questions
Zero experience required. We start every session from scratch — lying on the board, then kneeling, then standing, then foiling. The remote has a simple trigger for speed. Most people achieve their first lift above the water within the first 30-40 minutes.
Most riders cruise at 20–30 km/h, and professionals on special racing foils reach 50–55 km/h. During beginner sessions we keep the speed comfortable — typically 15–20 km/h. Even at moderate speeds the sensation of flying above the water is extraordinary.
Very safe. The motor has a safety leash connected to your wrist — if you fall off, the leash disconnects and the motor stops immediately. The water is warm (27–30 °C) all year. We provide helmets and impact vests for all sessions.
The Intro Lesson is 30 minutes. The E-Foil Lesson is 60 minutes. The Freedom package is 5 hours total, split across multiple sessions at your own pace. All sessions include a brief land briefing beforehand and a video of your ride sent to you afterwards.
After the E-Foil Lesson (60 min) and demonstrating confident independent control, you may rent the e-foil for unaccompanied sessions at a reduced rate. Our instructor will assess your readiness before approving solo riding.
