Common Questions
Wing foiling has a shorter ramp to the first session feeling — you can hold the wing and feel power on day one without kite management skills. Kitesurfing takes more dedicated instruction (wind window, bar pressure, body drag) before you get on the board. However, once independent, kitesurfers have more options and higher top speeds. Most beginners reach their first rides after 3 days of kitesurfing or 2 days of wing foiling at our beach spots on Koh Samui.
Kitesurfing: you can start learning from 6–7 knots (kite piloting, body drag); 10–12 knots is the most comfortable for lessons. Wing foiling: from about 6 knots. Windsurfing: from 5 knots. Light wind is fine for learning — stronger wind is for riding once you can. E-foil: zero wind needed — electric motor does all the work. On Koh Samui the E–SE wind at Nahai Beach (December–April) typically brings 12–20 knots, most consistent January–March; from May to October we ride at Nathon Beach in the SW monsoon (10–18 knots).
Yes — and many guests do. A popular combination is a Discovery kite course (2h) on a windy day and an e-foil session on a lighter day. If you have 5+ days, some riders do the Full Beginner kite course and a wing foil intro. We recommend focusing on one wind sport per trip to progress faster and retain what you learn.
Wing foiling is the most natural transition for surfers — the ocean reading, balance, and pop-up feel familiar. Many surfers ride their first wing session in half the time of a complete beginner. Kitesurfing is also excellent for surfers once the kite skills are mastered, as it opens up wave riding and downwind runs.
E-foil is the safest — no kite overhead, electric motor control, instructor walking alongside in shallow water. Windsurfing is also very safe — the sail drops away if you fall. Kitesurfing and wing foiling carry more gear complexity but are very safe when taught to IKO/IWO standards at a well-chosen beach spot like ours on Koh Samui.
