An e-foil looks like a surfboard until it lifts off the water. Underneath is a small but clever system: a battery, a motor on the mast and an underwater wing. Here is what each part does.

The Parts
| Part | What it does |
|---|---|
| Board | Holds the battery and gives stability before take-off |
| Battery | Powers the motor; sits inside the board |
| Mast | Connects the board to the foil and carries the motor |
| Motor and propeller | Push the board forward — usually protected by a guard |
| Foil wings | Front wing creates lift; rear wing keeps the board stable |
| Wireless remote | Controls speed; the safety leash on your wrist cuts the motor if you fall |
How It Flies
At low speed the board rides on the water like a surfboard. As speed builds, the front wing creates lift and the board rises. You control height with small shifts of weight between front and back foot, and speed with the remote. Most riders cruise at 20–30 km/h.
Safety Built In
- The motor stops as soon as the wrist leash disconnects.
- Helmet and impact vest are worn in every Kite Club session.
- Sessions run in a set area away from swimmers, in water deep enough for the mast.
Rent or Buy?
An e-foil is an expensive piece of kit, and it needs charging, maintenance and transport. For most visitors, sessions and rental are the better choice. At Kite Club we ride premium Waydoo boards — see e-foil prices: from 2,000 THB for a 30-minute intro, 3,000 THB per hour for independent riders and 13,000 THB for the 5-hour Freedom package.
Treat the remote like a dimmer, not a switch. Smooth throttle keeps the foil level; sudden bursts make the nose jump up.
Frequently Asked Questions
How does an e-foil work?
A battery-powered motor on the mast pushes the board; the underwater front wing lifts it above the surface once you have speed.
How fast does an e-foil go?
Most riders cruise at 20–30 km/h; professionals on special racing foils reach 50–55 km/h.
Is an e-foil safe?
Yes, with the basics: the wrist leash cuts the motor if you fall, and you wear a helmet and impact vest.
Which e-foil boards do you use?
Premium Waydoo e-foil boards.
